Job Summary
The Political Action Committee (PAC) Member will work under the direction of the Vice President of the WPFA to support the union’s political and advocacy initiatives. This role focuses on building relationships with city officials, promoting the union’s interests, and advancing its political agenda through strategic behind-the-scenes efforts. The ideal candidate is organized, politically savvy, and passionate about community engagement and the WPFA 4029.

Voting and Commitments

  • The WPFA is interested in holding five PAC members positions, one of them being the Vice President. The Committee will be chosen in a similar way we vote new members of the union board into office.
  • Voting will be held in the First union meeting of the year, there will be two PAC members spots up for election each year, with a two-year commitment to the positions.
  • The current WPFA Vice president will be the lead of the PAC committee
  • Special elections: A special election will be held if
    • If sitting and current PAC member make the choice to no longer participate in the PAC committee
    • If a sitting and current PAC member promotes or moves out of the WPFA
    • If a sitting and current PAC member knowingly and willingly goes against the direction of the WPFA and PAC committee at the interest of themselves or for another group to undermine the WPFA.
  • Special elections will be held at the next union meeting under new business, the vote will be conducted by the Vice President.

Key Responsibilities

  • Campaign Support: Design, coordinate, and distribute mailers and other promotional materials to support endorsed candidates or initiatives aligned with the union’s goals.
  • Research and Analysis: Conduct research on local political issues, candidates, and policies to inform the union’s strategy and endorsements. Monitor legislative and regulatory developments affecting the fire union.
  • City Council Engagement: Attend or watch city council meetings (in-person or virtually) to track discussions, decisions, and opportunities relevant to the union’s priorities. Provide detailed summaries and recommendations to the Vice President.
  • Community Outreach: Walk districts to engage with constituents, distribute materials, and promote the union’s advocacy efforts. Attend community events to represent the union and build relationships with stakeholders.
  • Interview Support: Assist in scheduling, at the direction of the Vice President sitting in on interviews with political candidates seeking the union’s endorsement, ensuring alignment with union priorities.
  • Relationship Building: Foster and maintain positive relationships with city officials, community leaders, and other stakeholders to advance the union’s influence and objectives.
  • Administrative Support: Maintain accurate records of PAC activities, including correspondence, event attendance, and research findings. Assist in preparing reports for the Vice President and union leadership.
  • Event Coordination: Support the planning and execution of union-sponsored events, such as city official charities, candidate forums, or community outreach initiatives.

    • Passionate about public safety and the mission of the fire union.

Working Conditions

  • This role requires occasional evening and weekend work to attend city council meetings, community events, or campaign activities.
  • Local travel within the city or district is required for outreach and engagement efforts.
  • Ability to work remotely for some tasks, with regular in-person collaboration with the Vice President and union leadership.
  • Willingness to attended outside union sponsored classes or conferences put on by the IAFF or CPF in the Sacramento area.
